The aluminum block in the picture is painted white and treated with black irregular dots and drops to prepare it for measurement by optical non-contact methods. Measuring the behavior of samples for experimental testing using optical methods allows obtaining precise and complete data on the behavior of mechanical systems, without affecting the behavior by adding measuring devices to or on the sample.
The method that, based on the processing of a series of consecutive photos, monitors the displacements and deformations of surfaces with a stochastic pattern is called the digital image correlation method or DIC (Digital Image Correlation).
