PINT OF SCIENCE
Pint of Science is an international science festival that takes place once a year over three evenings in May and brings researchers to your local bar to talk about current events in the world of science. It is the perfect opportunity to meet the women and men who are shaping the science of tomorrow.
SOCRI member Marina Manganaro is responsible for bringing this science festival to Rijeka and we are proud to be able to join her.

RIJEKA TEHNOLOGIJE
The goal of the event is the promotion and popularization of education and science in the field of technical and natural sciences so that the general public can get an insight into the recent technological achievements in Rijeka. During the event, scientists and teachers will talk about their work on the premises of the University’s components, while citizens will have the opportunity to learn about Rijeka’s technological achievements. Indeed, technologies and resulting innovations generate added value, income, and talent employment in the Republic of Croatia and Rijeka.
SCIENCE FESTIVAL RIJEKA
Science Outreach Centre is one of the organizers of the Science Festival in Rijeka.
The Science Festival was started in Croatia in 2003 on the initiative of the British Council. Many cities participate in the event. From the very beginning, the program for Science Festival in Rijeka is among the richest. Great credits for the success of the Science Festival in Rijeka in all these years goes to the Zlatni rez Association and the University of Rijeka, as well as the City of Rijeka and Primorsko-goranska County, who supported Science Festival Rijeka from its beginnings.
The Science Festival is an event aimed at bringing science closer to the public, i.e. informing the public about activities and results in the field of science, improving the public perception of scientists and motivating young people to research and acquire new knowledge. SF goes on every year with around 30 different organisations/public institutions joining as collaborators, and lasts for a week, with more than 100 different events scattered around the whole city over that week period. SF hosts scientists from all over the world…some of them were NoblePrize Winners.
A series of attractive contents on a selected topic (public popular lectures, workshops for primary and secondary schools, scientific cafes, forums, exhibitions, plays) seeks to present science in a popular, cheerful, and understandable way.
There are separate events for kindergartens, elementary and secondary school students; Science on Korzo is another event that brings plenty of interesting experiments outside as part of the walking zone Korzo in the city center. Public lectures usually target adults. Schools and kindergartens are also invited to involve in the Festival by
designing and implementing their projects on the theme of the Science Festival.
STEM PICNIC
The second edition of the STEM picnic occupied Art-kvart on April 13, 2024.
One day just to explore science, technology, engineering and math? Who cares about that?! Well, everyone who wants to do experiments, test the laws of physics, compete, explore the world of robots and artificial intelligence, understand the application of mathematics in everyday activities and have a lot of fun at the same time.
Another STEM picnic has arrived in Art-kvart, which brought together scientists, educators, entertainers, musicians and entrepreneurs who live every day researching STEM, and want to transfer their enthusiasm and passion to children, young people and adults who, for at least one day, want do the same.
STEM picnic 2.0. was held on saturday, 13.4.2024, at Dječja kuća Rijeka, Rijeka City Library, and Museum of modern and contemporary art Rijeka
The topic was STEM in everyday life. It is our wish that as many of our fellow citizens as possible – both young and old – become familiar with STEM and understand that it is not some distant and complicated concept, but that it is found in everything that surrounds us.
Program included a whole series of workshops where anyone could personally try one of the STEM fields through solving puzzles, playing educational games, trying out technology or competing in making a parachute. There were also lectures and guided walks around the Art Kvart, as well as plays and acrobatic performances.
The STEM picnic is jointly organized by the Center of Technical Culture Rijeka, the Rijeka City Library, the Science Outreach Centre at the University of Rijeka, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka. Participating in the program are: Astronomical Society Višnjan, Art-kino Croatia, Voluntary Fire Society Sušak, Croatian Robotics Association, Croatian Association of Ship Model Makers, Natural History Museum Rijeka, Faculty of Engineering in Rijeka, Ri Rock Association, Connect IT Association and Technical Culture Association of Zadar County.
The importance of popularizing STEM was recognized by our donors: the Ministry of Science and Education, the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
