Masonry arches loaded with dynamic (time-varying) excitation can show different forms of behavior, during which the contacts between individual blocks in the arch open and close again. The picture shows the opening of the contacts, which ultimately led to the breakdown, that is, the collapse of the arc.
The picture was created as part of research for Matei Cukarić’s graduation thesis.
