A reduced and simplified model of a structure that is based on soil helps us understand how such a structure will behave during an earthquake and how the characteristics of the ground in which it is based will affect that behavior. The picture shows one of a few experiments in which the model of the structure is based in sand of different humidity. The picture shows displacement vectors that show how much and in which direction each tracked point on the structure itself moved during the test in an artificially simulated earthquake.
The picture was created as a part of the laboratory tests for the doctoral dissertation of Adriana Brandis.
