Researcher’s Night

The European Researcher’s Night is traditionally organized every year on the last Friday in September, and this year it will be held on September 27 in five Croatian cities: Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Rijeka and Pula.

This manifestation includes a number of scientific and social activities, with the aim of attracting people of all levels of education, especially children and young people. The focus is on those who do not have access to science and research and are therefore less inclined to engage in STEAM fields or research activities.

Last year’s Researcher’s Night attracted more than 10,000 visitors who participated in over 150 different activities in the mentioned five coastal cities. This year, visitors can expect a Night full of interactive content, practical experiments, workshops, presentations, educational exhibitions, games and competitions.

The European Researcher’s Night is carried out as part of the project Reconnecting Science with the Blue Society – Blue-connect 2.0, which is financed by the Horizon Europe program, and the project partners are the University of Rijeka and the Foundation of the University of Rijeka.

In addition to the above, within the framework of the project, a series of lectures, exhibitions, workshops and other activities will be held continuously until the end of 2025 with the aim of bringing science and research closer to young people and the general public.

Through the program “Researchers and schools” with the catchphrase “Learning through play and dialogue”, researchers will organize visits to primary and secondary schools, including those on islands and in rural areas, in order to stimulate students’ curiosity and interest in scientific careers through interactive experiments and workshops. Also, students will have the opportunity to visit scientific institutions and learn about the work of researchers in partner institutions
